Table 1 gives the interpretation of the symbols. The irritant response depicted on the right side of the composite image is a "common irritant response" manifesting as a homogeneous erythema without infiltration (top) and a "erythema response" with punctate erythema (bottom).

Immediately after patch removal (2 days after occlusion). The same testing site 1 day later. Note the distinct "recession" pattern, indicating that the healing process begins immediately after removal of the irritant.
